On Monday, Aug. 5, at 11 a.m. in Memorial Hall, kids ages 6 and older can learn to play the ukulele at a workshop with Julie Stepanek. Instruments are included. Sign up starting July 22 at


ScienceTellers: Aliens!

Be part of an adventure from outer space on Thursday, Aug. 15, at 2:30 p.m. in Memorial Hall.

During a midnight meteor shower, something mysterious falls from the sky toward Earth — but it’s not a shooting star. Two curious kids venture into the forest to investigate and find themselves mixed up with a family of visitors from another planet! Pursued by a crazy space scientist, they must risk everything to rescue the aliens and get them back to their spaceship — before it’s too late!

Kindergarten kickoff

Is your child heading off to kindergarten this fall?

On Wednesday, Aug. 21, at 10 a.m., join staff from the Children’s Room for an hour of fun activities and friendship as they give you and your child a little taste of what kindergarten will be like. There will be activities centered around kindergarten readiness, including a raffle for a backpack full of goodies. Children may also meet their new school librarian and principal. August events in the Children’s Room

Book Bingo on Thursday, Aug. 1, from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. for children ages 8 to 11. Play four to five rounds of bingo to win books. Sign up at

Make It Take It Tuesdays for kids 3 and older with an adult. On Tuesday, Aug. 6, from 5:45 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., join us for a drop-in craft program. Pick up a token in the Children’s Room.

Dads and Donuts on Saturdays, Aug. 10 and 24, at 10 a.m., for ages 2 to 5 — story time for preschoolers and their families. After stories and a craft, share coffee, juice, and doughnuts. Pick up a token in the Children’s Room.

Musical Mornings with Peter Sheridan on Friday, Aug. 16, at 10 a.m. A children's musician for 20 years, Sheridan performs at many libraries, day care centers and schools. He plays guitar, accordion, harmonica and other instruments, and uses puppets and books in his program. No registration is needed.

Reading with Annie on Tuesday, Aug. 20, from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., for children able to read on their own. Annie is a therapy dog who loves to be read to. The sessions are 15 minutes long and only the child who is reading is allowed in the room with Annie and her handler. Register at
