For a while there, the issue was in doubt.

Would Mother Nature cooperate enough so Andover's children — ghost and goblins, witches and fairies and dinosaurs for a day — could go house to house and shout the time-honored words "trick or treat''?

Parents and kids wondered that for hours last Thursday as rain came in spurts.

But by late afternoon it dried up and the Halloween tradition went on, filling neighborhoods with characters that make an appearance once a year in Andover.
