A group of adults and children volunteered at the Lifting Spirits Miniature Therapy Horses facility in Andover as part of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service.
This year, Andover public schools celebrated King's legacy with the first-ever Andover Public Schools Service Day. Volunteers fanned out across Andover to do acts of service at the horse therapy facility and other venues.
Organizers said the service events were created in the spirit of King's philosophy of dedicating one's life to helping others.
Volunteers helped take care of the horses at Lifting Spirits Miniature Therapy Horses, which provides services to children and adults of all ages and abilities. The farm's therapeutic benefits include mental, social, educational, spiritual and physical benefits, according to research on equine therapy.
