Out & About: Andover sisters in 'Diary of Anne Frank'

Two young actresses from Andover have been taking the stage this month for a production of “The Diary of Anne Frank” in Newburyport.

Sisters Caroline Hall, 14, a student at Doherty Middle School, and Katherine Hall, 16, who attends Phillips Andover, are appearing in the drama, which is playing its final weekend at The Actors Studio in The Tannery Marketplace, 50 Water St. Caroline Hall is cast as Anne Frank while her sister is Margot Frank.

Phillips seniors performing program of concertos

Four Phillips Academy students will share the spotlight Saturday night when they perform a program of concertos at 7:30 p.m. in Cochran Chapel on the Phillips Academy campus, 180 Main St., Andover.

The program will feature alto Michaela Barczak performing the first two movements of Mahler’s “Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen,” Tony Choi performing the first movement of Barber’s Violin Concerto, Josh Kim performing the second movement of Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 2 in G minor and Vivian Liu performing the first movement of Nielsen’s Flute Concerto.

Ham and beans for scholarship fund

West Parish Church at 129 Reservation Road in Andover will host a Ham and Bean Supper on Saturday, Jan. 24, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The menu will feature Carando spiral ham, navy and kidney beans, macaroni and cheese, cole slaw, hot dogs, bread and dessert. 

A suggested donation of $10 for adults and $5 for children is requested. Proceeds will support the church’s scholarship fund to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence. The public is welcome. Call the church office at 978-475-3528 for more information.

Documentary next up for Faith Lutheran movie club

An American documentary about a cyclist’s personal journey after a 2007 bicycle accident is the next feature presentation in Faith Lutheran Church of Andover’s movie club.

“I Am” will be shown on Friday, Jan. 30, at 7 p.m. at the church, 360 South Main St. (Route 28). The 2010 film written, directed and narrated by Tom Shadyac explores his perceptions of “the nature of humanity”and “the world’s ever-growing addiction to materialism.”

Registration is underway for ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages), Citizenship Preparation and expanded preschool classes at the Merrimack Valley Immigrant & Education Center (formerly the Asian Center) at 20 Ballard Road, Lawrence.
