Applications for the Senior Citizen Real Estate Property Tax Work-off Program are available at the Andover Senior Center. Qualified applicants can receive an exemption of $1,100 on their real estate tax bill in exchange for completing 100 hours of community service as assigned through the program.
The program is for Andover residents over the age of 60. The individual has to be the assessed owner of the property on which the tax is exempted. The property must be the primary residence of the applicant.
There are no income guidelines for first qualifying owner. A second qualifying owner may earn an exemption if they meet the income guidelines.
Applicants must submit an application at the Senior Center by 2 p.m., June 30, 2017. They must undergo a complete CORI, or criminal background, check and commit to 100 hours of service as assigned, within a specified time frame.
All applicants must attend an informational meeting at the Senior Center. Meetings are scheduled for June.
