Four-time state champion swimmer Mia Galat of Andover High School is this year's recipient of the $5,000 Krit Classic Scholarship.
Last year marked the 10th and final edition of the Krit Classic, a popular 5K held in Andover to honor the memory of Kristin Lee “Krit” Kearins, an Andover High School graduate who died tragically in a bicycling accident in Boston in 2008. Kearins captained both the Swimming & Diving and Gymnastics teams at AHS, leading both to state championships.
Her memorial scholarship lives on and is awarded to an AHS senior athlete who exhibits superior sportsmanship and team spirit.
Mia is also a three-time Boston Globe and Boston Herald All Scholastic. In 2017 she was named Boston Globe Swimmer of the Year and in her senior year she was named Merrimack Valley Conference MVP. Mia has been a member of both the AHS Swimming & Diving Team and Crimson Aquatics throughout high school.
Mia is a part of the South Church community and Youth Group. Over her April vacations, Mia worked to rebuild homes for low-income families as a volunteer on South Church's Mission trips to South Carolina and Virginia. In the summers, Mia works at Indian Ridge Country Club as a lifeguard and swim instructor.
She will attend the University in Connecticut in the fall where she will swim.
