Minor injuries resulted from a tractor-trailer rollover on Interstate 495 South Thursday afternoon last week, snarling traffic during the peak of rush hour, according to Andover Fire Chief Mike Mansfield.
Mansfield said the tractor-trailer was on its side, taking up all three travel lanes of I-495 South at Exit 40.
The tractor-trailer was filled with metal shelving, which Mansfield said would have to be offloaded before the truck could be taken off the highway. He expected the offloading process to take until 10 p.m. Thursday.
Mansfield said two lanes were opened up around 6 p.m. for commuters, and the tractor-trailer continued to block the high-speed lane. He said traffic was severely impacted, with a several mile backup going southbound.
The driver was transported to Lawrence General Hospital with minor injuries, according to Mansfield. No other cars were involved, and the crash is currently under investigation.
