Timothy Corkery has been appointed to the position of principal of West Middle School, following the retirement of Principal Becky Franks.

Corkery is currently the principal of the Nettle Middle School in Haverhill, where he has worked since 2014. When he started his role at the Nettle School, it was a Level 3 school under the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, or DESE. Under Corkery's leadership, the school attained a Level 1 rating.

Corkery was selected Teacher of the Year in 2012 by the Veterans of Foreign Affairs in his Tucson, Arizona district. He held the role of a department head and social studies teacher at a school there from 2011 to 2013.

Before his career in education, Corkery was a Naval Officer and spent almost 25 years as a Navy pilot. He served as the executive officer of the naval ROTC program and an associate professor at the University of Arizona.

Corkery received a bachelor's degree in political science from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis. He also has two master's degrees. One is from the U.S. Naval War College in national security and strategic studies, and the other is from the University of Arizona in educational leadership.

He will assume his role at West Middle School this summer.
