L'Italien has delivered leadership, integrity

Editor, Townsman:

When Barbara L'Italien became state representative eight years ago, I had high expectations of her. She has not only met, but has exceeded those expectations and her list of accomplishments is impressive. She quickly became recognized for her knowledge of special education issues both in the house and senate, and this resulted in her sponsorship of several autism bills in 2009 and 2010 to assist families and students in coping with this increasingly prevalent disease. In addition, her leadership ability was demonstrated by her appointment as vicechairwoman of the Ways and Means Committee, and she has carried out her responsibilities with independence and courage to serve the needs of all of her constituents.

Unlike her opponent, who is driven by political and religious dogma and a reckless and hollow promise to reduce taxes, L'Italien has a proven record of dealing with every issue with intelligence, open-mindedness and integrity thereby ensuring that our communities can continue to prosper and grow.

Although I no longer live in Andover, I worked closely with L'Italien during my six years on the Andover School Committee and I respect her immensely for her contributions to education and our school system. I plan to hold signs for her on Election Day, Tuesday Nov. 2, and I urge you to demonstrate your support by voting for L'Italien so she can continue her excellent work on your behalf.
