"How many deaths does it take ‘til he knows, that too many people have died?”
This prophetic verse from Bob Dylan’s “Blowin’ in the Wind” eerily characterizes the horrific view shared by millions of Americans as a still-infectious President Donald Trump defiantly took off his mask upon returning to the White House after a brief stay at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for treatment for COVID-19.
How dare he mock the 210,000 Americans who have died from coronavirus as he posed and saluted maskless for a photo-op?
How dare he put at risk the lives of his Secret Service entourage so he could take a joy ride and greet his supporters outside the medical center?
How dare the Trump family violate the rules of the last presidential debate by not wearing masks and supposedly not being screened for COVID-19?
How dare our president set the tone among his West Wing staff to bully and belittle their colleagues who wear masks?
“The answer my friend is blowin’ in the wind” and it’s a virus that continues to wreak havoc and death here and worldwide, abetted by leaders like Trump who deny science and truth their rightful reign in this monumental battle to defeat the pandemic.
The answer, my friend, is for all of us to unite and follow the proven, effective guidelines of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention regarding masks, physical distancing and avoiding large social gatherings.
The answer, my friend, is to vote Trump out of office, for he has demonstrated not one iota of concern for American lives other than for his own.
