Now more than ever we need to acknowledge the beauty around us and thank those who made it possible.
Our Main Street looks stunning. Over the last 40 years, I have seen multiple Main Street improvement projects that have: redesigned traffic flows; added new streetlights and walkways; established a sponsored flower bed program; added garden spaces at banks, the library, Old Town Hall and Elm Square; installed flower pots; and planted new trees with an expanded tree program.
With each effort, and with the help of hundreds of volunteers, Main Street got better.
Now the pandemic has truly pushed us over the top. Street dining with umbrellas surrounded by flowering plants reminds me of a fancy vacation spot. It is beautiful. and I want to thank all of those who made it possible.
Now my challenge to all of us: Why can’t we do this every year? Outdoor dining is fun with an atmosphere that is friendly, relaxed and beautiful.
The pandemic has changed our lives in so many ways -- and in this case for the better. We need to embrace this new Main Street and the value it brings to our community.
Once again, thanks to all those who made this possible, now and in the past.
I'm looking forward to my next meal on Main Street.
