Andover High graduated senior Jake Dalton placed fifth in the hammer throw in the championship (top-tier) division of New Balance Nationals on Saturday in Greensboro, N.C.
Dalton scored a top throw of 210-1. He wasn’t far off the winning throw of 239-11 by Trey Knight of Ridgefield, Wa. It was a rare chance for Dalton to throw against competition in a high school meet, as the hammer is not contested at MIAA meets.
A Dartmouth College track recruit, Dalton recently set the Massachusetts state high school record in the hammer throw with a 218-3.
Dalton also led Andover in the discus this spring, with a team-best 125-11.
Andover High’s Jodi Parrott placed fifth in the freshman 100 meter hurdles competition at New Balance Nationals.
Parrott ran a 15.04 in the finals, just off the winning time of Peyton Rollins of Boston (14.54.)
Parrott also tied for seventh in the freshman high jump (4-11) and scored a 15-10.50 in the freshman long jump at Nationals.
