Harvard-bound Gray nabs All-American status at nationals

COURTESY PHOTOMackenzie Gray landed on the podium at the New Balance Indoor National Championships over the weekend.

Mackenzie Gray of Andover competed in her third straight New Balance Indoor National Championships this weekend at The Armory in New York City. 

Gray finished fifth in the triple jump (Championship Division) with a personal record of 40 3/4 feet, which put her on the podium for the first time as an All-American.

She also fought her way from a 15th seed in the long jump (Emerging Elite Division) to finish fourth with an indoor personal record of 18 feet, 4 inches. 

She is a senior at The Governor’s Academy in Byfield, where she has been a high honors student every semester. 

Earlier in the season, Gray also nabbed the USATF New England Champion title for the second straight year in both the triple and long jumps at Harvard University in Cambridge. 

This fall, Gray was recruited by several of the top Ivy League and Division I and III track programs. She has chosen to compete next year for the Crimson at Harvard, where she will study engineering.
