Andover High Roundup: Ballou delivers quick pin in delayed wrestling season

Sean Ballou needed just 22 seconds to score a pin at 182 pounds in the opener of the long-delayed high school wrestling season, but Andover lost to perennial power Lowell 39-21 on Saturday. Hussain Mehesri added a pin (1:00) at 170 pounds and Yasser Maita battled for a marathon pin (3:41) at heavyweight.

Girls Track

Parrot takes two

Jodi Parrott was right back to her dominant ways, winning the long jump (18-5.75) and 100 hurdles (15.38), but Andover lost to North Andover 89-56 on Saturday. Ashley Shelton won the high jump (5-0), Sara Folan took the javelin (102-11) and Kayla DiBenedetto won the 800 (2:32.49) for the Warriors.

Boys Track

Walsh, Kim star

Andover’s DJ Walsh won the 2-mile (10:21.20), Cameron Kim took the 200 (23.79) and they teamed with Matt Serrano and Camden McCarthy to take the 4x400 relay (3:52.74), but the Golden Warriors fell to North Andover 105-40 on Saturday. Conor Moses added a win in the javelin (147-1) for the Warriors.


Grecco dazzles 

Ryan Grecco spun a two-hitter, striking out 10 over 6 2/3 innings, and Andover got the clutch hits it needed in a 4-3 season-opening win over Lowell last Thursday. Tanner O’Sullivan, Aidan Ritter and Nolan Schirmer each had a hit and drove in a run and Dylan Brenner scored twice for the winners.


Anthony Teberio was 3 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBIs, but Andover lost to Lowell 13-11 on Saturday. Tanner O’Sullivan was 3 for 3 with three RBIs, Dylan Brenner was 2 for 3 with three runs and Aidan Ritter scored twice for the Golden Warriors.


Giordano matches ace

Andover freshman pitcher Jackie Giordano stayed with Lowell ace Giana LaCedra, the reigning Mass. Player of the Year, through seven innings, but Lowell punched across a run in the eighth for a 1-0 victory last Thursday.

Giordano threw a 3-hitter and struck out 11 while LaCedra gave up just one hit and struck out “at least 15” according to Andover coach Rick Quattrocchi.

Girls Tennis

Zhou sweeps

Isabel Zhou swept top singles 6-0, 6-0 as Andover beat Lowell 5-0 last Thursday. Sonika Chaudhary and Elysia Yu teamed to sweep second doubles, while Jenna Wang and Rachel Chen each won 6-1, 6-0.

Boys Volleyball

Amirault shines

Jyles Amirault impressed with 19 kills, but Andover fell to Lowell 3-0 last Thursday. Zach Dutton and Edwards Lai each notched 10 digs and Owen Chowdhary added eight service points.

Girls Lacrosse

Gobiel nets three

Tess Gobiel scored thee goals, but Andover fell to Central Catholic 17-5 on Saturday. Lily Farnham and Vanessa Pierni each scored once for the Warriors.


Andover lost in its season-opener, 10-2 to Central Catholic last Thursday.

Boys lacrosse

Andover splits

Andover bounced back to beat Central Catholic 13-7 on Saturday. The Golden Warrior coaching staff did not report who scored goals.
