Arvin Nunez and Josh Gruenberg led the way for Andover Post 8, which posted a huge 2-0 win over Lawrence Sunday night.
The win lifted Andover to 4-5-1 and kept its District 8 playoff hopes alive. Post 8 was scheduled to play games every day this week with the playoffs scheduled to begin Saturday.
Nunez started on the mound for Andover and went 5 1/3 innings, allowing just three singles while striking out five without walking a batter. Gruenberg came in and pitched the last 1 2/3 innings without giving up a hit. He struck out the side in the seventh.
Gruenberg was also the hitting star with two hits, an RBI and a run scored. He knocked in Nunez with the first run in the third and scored in the seventh.
Ty Walsh tossed a three-hit shutout, striking out six as Andover Post 8 Legion downed Saugus Post 210, 10-0, in five innings last Monday.
Andover cruised to victory, thanks to a seven-run first inning. Eleven batters went to the plate in the frame and each pick up a hit in the inning was a single. Matt Potts (2 for 3), Gavin Kelsey (1 for 1) and Henry Grebe (2 for 2) all had two-RBI singles in the first.
Nolan Schirmer (2 for 3) also had two RBIs in the game, while Josh Gruenberg had a triple and scored a run. Andover posted two more in the second and one in the fourth to run-rule Saugus.
Jason Giangrande and Arvin Nunez combined to allow just four hits, but Andover dropped a heartbreaker to Haverhill Post 4 last Wednesday.

American falls short
Despite three hits and an RBI for Hayden Waugh, Andover American fell to North Andover 5-4 in the District 14 final last Wednesday. Simon Green, Sean Napolitano and Alex Berman each also drove in a run for Andover.
Griffin Bucci scored three runs and drove in two more as Andover beat North Andover 8-4 in the District 14 tourney last Monday. Will Norris added two runs and two RBIs Chris Jaillet, Cam Hosmer and Sean Napolitano each also plated a run.
Chris Jaillet, Ryan Jaillet, Rishi Rane, Hayden Waugh and Griffin Bucci all had an RBI but Andover lost to North Andover 7-5 in the District 14 tourney last Tuesday.
Andover to finals
The Andover High football team advanced to the finals of the Northeast 7v7 flag football league North Regional on Saturday, before falling to Bonny Eagle High School (Maine) 18-7.
The Golden Warriors beat Lynn Classical in the Sweet 16, Swampscott in the quarters and BB&N in the semifinals to advance to the title game.
Dalton keeps rolling
Recent Andover High graduate Jake Dalton placed second in the hammer throw with a 215-8 at last week’s 2019 USATF Region 1 Junior Olympic Track & Field Championship in Long Island.
Earlier in the week, Dalton set a new personal record with a 225-9 at a meet in upstate New York. His previous best was a 222-2.
