Running back Jack Sylvester, better known for using his legs, looks to throw a pass during last Friday's victory over Lawrence. The pass was complete for a two-point conversion.

Andover football may have missed out on the postseason in 2013, but the Golden Warriors weren’t about to give up on the season.

Not by a long shot.

Freshman quarterback E.J. Perry IV delivered his best game as a varsity player, last Friday, completing seven of eight passes for 146 yards and three touchdowns, and caught another TD pass as Andover rolled over neighboring rival Lawrence 39-10.

Plenty was at stake, as underclassmen set out to battle for jobs in 2014.

“Coach told us he will find the players, the guys who want to go hard, who want to win,” junior Chris Nicholas said. “It was tough not making the playoffs, and we just wanted to come out and prove we’re a talented team. This is the time to get ready for next year.”

With his two QBs splitting time between the signal-caller spot and receiver, coach E.J. Perry saw his offense run efficiently with little resistance from the Lancers, who tumbled to 2-6.

Along with the younger Perry’s 146-yard, three-TD day, QB Oliver Eberth completed 10 of 15 for 96 more yards and a score. Each quarterback was on the receiving end of a touchdown pass from the other, as E.J. Perry IV caught a 21-yard TD toss from Eberth, who was on the receiving end of a 14-yard TD connection from the frosh. Eberth also ran for a score.

Hulking Andover defensive tackle Ommel Bonilla, all 290 pounds of him, clogged the inside running game all night, while captain Ben Hartford pierced the Lancers for three sacks. On the back end, Nicholas picked off a pair of Lancer passes.
