Andover Post 8 only needed six innings to see off Danvers, winning a 12-0 landslide last Tuesday to head into the tournament red hot.
The trio of Andrew Theriault, Josh Gruenberg and Chris Stokes combined to throw just 87 pitches, allowing only four hits and striking out seven. Meanwhile, Theriault led the way at the plate with three hits.
Henry Grebe also had three base knocks, while Gruenberg, Nolan Schirmer, Matt Potts and Alex Pisacreta had two apiece. Schirmer and Pisacreta each knocked in three runs, while Grebe drove in two more
Andover allowed a two-run first inning, then slammed the door on Middleton-Peabody Monday night, coming from behind and scoring in the bottom of the seventh to earn a pivotal 3-2 victory.
Jason Giangrande went the distance for Post 8, allowing six hits and striking out eight. Between the third and fifth inning, Giangrande retired 12 straight batters as Andover embarked on a comeback.
In the seventh, Josh Gruenberg reached on a fielder’s choice, stole second, advanced to third on a passed ball and came home for the winning run when Nolan Schirmer’s hot shot was mishandled by the second baseman.
Schirmer and Gruenberg each had a hit, while the former also had an RBI. Andrew Theriault had two hits, including an RBI single.
Defensively, Schirmer excelled, throwing out three runners from behind the plate for the second consecutive night.
Andover Legion took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth, but couldn’t hold on Saturday, falling 5-3 to Beverly in the first round of the District 8 playoffs.
An error for one run and four walks in the bottom of the fifth accounted for two runs were key for Beverly.
Starting pitcher Jason Giangrande was the offensive spark for Andover, going 2 for 2 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Post 8 and Andover High ace Josh Gruenberg took the loss for Andover, which finished its season at 8-7-1. Post 8 won five of its last seven games.

Tatum Shaw continued to star by scoring 16 points as Andover edged Bishop Fenwick 40-35 in Hoops for Hope Summer League play last Wednesday.
